Seriously, Have You Seen this Bag?

Check out these photos of a pre-production All In Canvas Messenger bag. You can tell it’s pre-production, ‘cuz there’s no All In art on it… To see mockups of what it will look like with the art, visit the All In page. Note: These photos do not do justice to the color.

I admit it. I have a bit of a bag fetish. I own several dozen messenger bags, totes, and backpacks. I don’t know, maybe it’s my OCD tendencies, but  I think about bags a lot. I think about what they’re made of, and how they’re sewn together. I think about the size and the scale of them. I think about how they fasten—whether it’s buckles, buttons, straps, magnets or velcro. I think about Pockety Goodness™—all the pen holders, zipper pouches, snap pockets and every conceivable nook and cranny where I organize my life. Maybe I have a problem, but it sure is satisfying when I come across a bag that has the right mix of features…

And it just so happens that the All In Canvas Messenger is one of those bags that gets me tingling. See, my goal for the bags that we make for Mission Adventures is pretty simple. I want to make bags that get used. My goal is that the students who receive our bag love it so much that it becomes their go-to bag when they get home. I don’t want to make just some trinket that they use while they’re with us and then abandon. I want to give them a gift that they’ll treasure and use when they get home. I want these bags going everywhere—to school, to work, on their next trip. And this canvas messenger bag is one of those bags that will become like a traveling companion that reminds our students of the experience they had with us.

So there’s a lot to love about this bag—here are my highlights:

  • The Fabric. The 14 oz. (Heavyweight) 100% Cotton Canvas will last for years and age well.
  • It’s the color of faded blue jeans. The photos above do not do it justice. The enzyme wash actually bonds the pigment to the fibers of the fabric in such a way as to provide a beautiful soft finish.
  • The style is just right. Those ragged edges are the kind of detail that add a lot of style and value to the bag. It’s simple shape and unstructured floppiness make this messenger an instant casual classic.
  • Pockety Goodness™. Even though the bag is simple, there’s a lot of function here. Each end of the bag has an exterior snap closing pocket for instant access to the stuff you want: think cell phone, keys, etc. And since there’s one on each end, that makes this bag ambidextrous—you can wear it over either shoulder and have a pocket at your fingertips. This detail often goes overlooked on lesser bags. The two interior zipper pockets, one under the flap, and one on the inside, are roomy enough for wallets, passports, pencils etc. And since they zip, stuff doesn’t fall out of them. (If you’re like me, this is surprisingly important.)
  • The nice wide web strap is comfortable, adjustable, and securely fastened to the bag with a solid X-block stitch.
  • There’s lots of other nice little details—the zippers are metal, there’s an included key fob sewn insinde. The interior is lined with a color-matched cotton fabric. While there’s no padding in the bag, it’s perfect for toting a laptop & accessories as long as you have a padded sleeve.
  • My all-time favorite feature though is the magnetic snap closures. They snap firmly and won’t pop open until you want them to, (well, unless you’ve totally overloaded your bag). And they are silent—I’ve always hated that ripping sound velcro makes—especially when I’m trying to be stealth.

This bag really has the right mix of feature and style. I’ve seen similar bags go for big bucks in stores. You can find similar (but un-customized) bags at retail for between $40 and $50 USD. Ours is a downright steal at just $25—or an even better deal in The Works!™
