We Have Liftoff!
I’m really pleased with the launch of the new missionadventures.net web site. I’ve spent weeks and weeks researching our options on upgrading our web site, and I am excited about the awesome opportunities this new Network site gives us.
Spotlight On Your Profile
Today, I want to put the spotlight on the new YWAM Center Profile page that each base has on the site. When a visitor puts their cursor over the “YWAM Centers” link in the main navigation, they see a drop down menu like the one at the right.
If you don’t see your base’s name in that list, contact me right away, and I’ll get you the credentials you need to be able to log into the site and add your info. (There’s a “Contact Us’ button at the bottom of this post).
When a visitor clicks your link it takes them to a page that you’ve created that gives them information about your YWAM center. (If you haven’t edited this page yet, it just displays a blank page, so ummm, get to editing!)
So Who’s “Winning”?
I know that none of us in the Network are competitive, but I imagine you are curious as to which base has the most hits on their profile page? Yep, it’s the one highlighted in that picture, YWAM El Paso-Juarez—whoot, whoot, whoot! Why is it so popular? Not only did they do a great job with their Profile, they actually did a Profile… If yours is blank, you should be feeling the heat—get to it!
So what sort of information should you put on this page? Here are a few ideas for you.
- Contact Info! Give youth workers a variety of ways they can keep in touch with you. So physical address and telephone number are critical. It’s a given, but don’t forget your email address! We’ve got a great way to do this with your very own Email Contact Form… But we’ll talk about that in the next spotlight.
- A Picture or Something. Get a picture of your base, or of your staff or one of you on the page. Make it sorta personal so the youth worker that visits gets an idea who you are. That way they’ll remember it better and be more likely to click through to your web site.
- Destinations/Dates/Prices. You probably don’t want to update your Profile all the time, but it would be helpful for a visitor to know where your outreaches are, when they’re happening, and how much they cost. Yes, this same info will appear on all those great Outreach Posts you’ll be making, (again the subject of another Spotlight post coming soon…). But you’re not guaranteed that your visitor is going to see your outreach post, right?
That Sounds Hard! (Spoiler Alert: It’s Not!)
Right about now you may be thinking that this all sounds good, but that you’re not really a webby-person. Let me tell you if you’ve ever blogged, or even if you’ve ever been on facebook, you can do this. One of the big upgrades we have with this site is a comprehensive help system. (I’ve put lots of handy links on the page you see when you login). You can do this! So go ahead and login and make a spiffy Profile for your MA ministry.
